Unarmed carwash worker shot and killed by police officer during traffic stop at 2:30am; officer claimed he thought victim was holding a rifle; a baseball bat, but no gun was found in his car; survived by wife and two children.

Mendez v. City of Gardena

Two men shot, one of them killed, by police investigating a stolen bicycle; one of the men, the bicycle theft victim, saw the police stopping his friends on their bikes and tried to tell police they had stopped the wrong men; police opened fire on them; police body cameras confirmed that victims were unarmed; decedent survived by parents.

Unarmed, 43 y.o. father to 13, shot and killed during a routine traffic stop; settlement also included requiring the University of Cincinnati to provide undergraduate education for his kids. Officer fired from university PD and facing murder charge.

Botched drug raid wherein police shot 92 y.o. woman 8x (39 shots fired total) after she’d shot her pistol once, assuming she was being robbed. Officer admitted to planting marijuana in her home after she died; survived by niece. Officers pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, making false statements, federal charges of conspiracy.
