Kristy Gough, aged 30, killed in March 2008 while cycling with Matt Peterson when sheriff's deputy fell asleep at the wheel.
Accident resulted in three separate settlements:
Police shooting of mentally disabled, Marine veteran, 31 y.o.man who had crashed his SUV through school gate and disobeyed officers’ commands; survived by wife and three children.
32 y.o. man denied medical care in jail died of meningitis and pneumonia while jailers assumed he was detoxing from heroin; survived by mother.
Police shooting of 31 y.o. man, who police mistakenly believed was a robbery suspect; decedent fled and failed to show his hands as ordered; survived by wife and four children.
Police shot Iraq veteran in head with “less lethal” beanbag during protest march, causing traumatic brain injury.
Epileptic man with numerous pre-existing conditions including diabetes, hypertension, and alcoholism, was denied seizure medication for 20 days in jail by jail’s private, for-profit medical company; man sustained multiple seizures including one for 7.5 hours; Plaintiff survived, with permanent brain damage.
Police shot African-American man accused of trying to run over officers with a vehicle; survived by 5 y.o. son.
