Sidney Gurley, 46 African American inmate at Gus Harrison, died of peritonitis from an undiagnosed appendicitis. Sidney reported, on multiple ocassions, abdominal events. Kited, but not seen by healthcare until day before his death. Even then, he was misdiagnosed as suffering urinary tract infection. Officers ignored obvious signs of illness and other inmates complaints on behalf of Sidney. Of course, officers reported during rounds they checked for breathing and signs of life, even up to the point of rigors. Also settled for confidential amount with attending physician assistant.

29 y.o. mentally ill man on bicycle, known to be on probation, shot by police officers during attempted detention for stolen vehicle when man moved his hands upwards toward his chest after being ordered to show his hands.

50 y.o. man died in jail due to lack of medical care when he developed a burst blood vessel in his stomach; survived by mother.

3 y.o. girl, survived by her father (addicted to meth and incarcerated when she died) and grandparents, killed by her mother and mother’s boyfriend, who were convicted of her torture and murder. Napa Police and County CPS social workers failed to obey their mandatory duties to investigate and report multiple reports of child abuse and neglect, in violation of state CANRA law. Federal court due process claims had been dismissed and were on appeal; state court negligence claims pending in Napa County Superior Court.

54 y.o. schizophrenic man on meth killed by restraint asphyxia in county jail, on video; CFMG medical providers failed to intervene or treat face-down, motionless decedent; Willits officers negligently aggravated decedent’s paranoia; survived by brother.

26 y.o. woman died in jail while detoxing from heroin without proper medical care; survived by parents.

Deputies mistakenly shot and killed 54 y.o. man during standoff with armed gang member who had taken family hostage inside home; deputies mistook homeowner for suspect.
