Babbitt v. City of San Leandro

Plaintiff, an African American 50 year-old, was sitting in his vehicle when approached by police about an open alcohol container in a parking lot. Plaintiff denied knowing anything about it and refused to allow a search of his vehicle. Plaintiff was placed in a chokehold and arrested. Toxicology revealed no alcohol in his system. Defendants City of San Leandro and Officer Michael Olivera settled prior to filing any motions.

Allen et al v. City of Pomona

City of Pomona illegally seizing the property of its residents experiencing homelessness. We sued to stop the practice and force the city to honor the plaintiffs' constitutional rights and compensate them for lost property.

Resolved post-filing; no dispositive motions decided.

Unarmed carwash worker shot and killed by police officer during traffic stop at 2:30am; officer claimed he thought victim was holding a rifle; a baseball bat, but no gun was found in his car; survived by wife and two children.

Unarmed, 43 y.o. father to 13, shot and killed during a routine traffic stop; settlement also included requiring the University of Cincinnati to provide undergraduate education for his kids. Officer fired from university PD and facing murder charge.

Officers responding to bar fight tapped on car window, and driver started to drive away; officer stepped in front of car and shot him, assuming victim had tried to run him over; survived by parents.
