First Steps Towards Justice: An Overview of Preserving Claims for Incarcerated Clients
EVENT DESCRIPTION
There are many challenges representing incarcerated individuals in civil rights claims but one of the most important things to do is to take the steps to preserve their claims. This event will teach attorneys and law students the basics of how to make incarcerated people eligible to bring lawsuits and defend their rights. The first panel will provide an overview of the Prison Litigation Reform Act (PLRA) and what you need to do to preserve claims in federal court. The second panel will focus on satisfying the prerequisites for an incarcerated person to sue in state court.
