Lunch with an Expert Series: Dr. Patterson, PsyD, Clinical and Forensic Psychologist

EVENT DESCRIPTION

NPAP's final installment of a lunch with an expert features Dr. Marcus Patterson, a forensic and clinical psychologist. Dr. Patterson is a qualified expert on a range of correctional mental health matters and will talk through how to use an expert to develop claims alleging the unconstitutional provision of medical care and provide guidance on proving psychological harm and injuries. 


ABOUT the SPEAKER

Dr. Marcus Patterson is a licensed clinical psychologist and the owner of Full Circle Mental Health Services, LLC, based in Oxon Hill, Maryland.  With over a decade of experience in clinical, forensic, and correctional psychology, he provides comprehensive psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and expert consultation services to individuals, families, schools, and legal entities.

In his private practice, Dr. Patterson specializes in individual psychotherapy for adults well as psychoeducational evaluations to support student learning and special education planning. He also conducts forensic psychological evaluations, including competency to stand trial, violence risk, presentencing, prerelease, and insanity evaluations, drawing on specialized training from the Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy at the University of Virginia and a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology.

Dr. Patterson serves as a court-appointed mental health expert to the Federal Special Master in Coleman v. Newsom, overseeing mental health care delivery within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.  He has held leadership roles in correctional health systems, including serving as Director of Behavioral Health for Unity Healthcare at the DC Department of Corrections, where he managed behavioral health services and quality improvement initiatives.

His earlier clinical experience includes training and work with The MECCA Group, the DC Superior Court Child Guidance Clinic, St. Elizabeths Hospital, Howard University Counseling Service, and Community Connections. Across these settings, he has provided psychotherapy, psychological assessments, forensic evaluations, and clinical supervision, with a consistent focus on supporting vulnerable and underserved populations.

Dr. Patterson is committed to bridging the gap between mental health and the legal system by advancing effective, ethical, and evidence-based practices in forensic and correctional settings.

ACCREDITATION

This event is accredited for 1.5 general credit hours with the State Bar of California (NPAP is a multiple activity provider with the State Bar of CA).

Most attendees should be able to self-report for CLE credit to their own state bars, and in instances where a state bar requires that the event sponsor report on behalf of attendees, NPAP is happy to assist.


RECORDING

The event will be recorded and the recording will be available to attendees after the event. However, attendees will only be elligible for CLE credit for the portions of the event that they attended live. Retroactive viewing of recordings will not be elligible for CLE credit, as NPAP does not have a means of validating attendee participation in this circumstance.
